నేడు మనం ఒక చారిత్రాత్మకమైన రోజును జరుపుకుంటున్నాం –
అదే జాతీయ విజ్ఞాన దినోత్సవం!

సైన్స్ డే గా మనం జరుపుకొంటున్నాం.

కవి గురజాడ అప్పారావు చెప్పారు –
“దేశమును ప్రేమించుమన్నా…
మంచి అన్నది పెంచుమన్నా…”
అని.

నేను అదే మాటను కొంచెం మార్చి చెప్తాను –

“దేశమును అభివృద్ధి చేయాలన్నా… విజ్ఞానాన్ని పెంచుమన్నా!”

ఫిబ్రవరి 28 – ఈ రోజు ఎందుకు ప్రత్యేకమైనది?

విద్యార్థులారా!
1928వ సంవత్సరం, ఫిబ్రవరి 28వ తేదీన భారతదేశ గర్వకారణమైన శాస్త్రవేత్త, భారత రత్న సర్ సి.వి. రామన్ గారు ఒక అద్భుతమైన శాస్త్రీయ సత్యాన్ని కనుగొన్నారు. దానికే మనం “రామన్ ఎఫెక్ట్” అని పిలుస్తాం.

ఈ ఒక్క కనుగొనే భారతదేశానికి 1930వ సంవత్సరంలో నోబెల్ బహుమతి తీసుకొచ్చింది.
ఆ గర్వమైన చరిత్రను గుర్తు చేసుకుంటూ, 1987 నుండి ప్రతి సంవత్సరం ఫిబ్రవరి 28ని జాతీయ విజ్ఞాన దినోత్సవంగా జరుపుకుంటున్నాం.

కానీ ఒక్క నిమిషం ఆగండి…
సి.వి. రామన్ ఆ కనుగొన్నదేమిటి?
కేవలం కాంతి ఒక పదార్థం మీద పడినప్పుడు దాని రంగు ఎందుకు మారుతుందో అని ప్రశ్నించారు. అంతే!
ఒక చిన్న ప్రశ్న… కానీ ఆ ప్రశ్న సమాధానం ప్రపంచ చరిత్రనే మార్చింది.
ప్రశ్నించడమే శాస్త్రం!

విద్యార్ధినీ విద్యార్థులారా!
శాస్త్రవిజ్ఞానం అంటే ఏమిటి?
పెద్ద పెద్ద పుస్తకాలు చదవడమా?
కష్టమైన సూత్రాలు కంఠతా పట్టడమా?..
కాదు!
శాస్త్రవిజ్ఞానం అంటే – ప్రశ్నించే మనసు!

ఒక చిన్న కథ చెప్తాను వినండి –
ఒక చెట్టు కింద ఆపిల్ పండు పడింది. పక్కన ఉన్న ముగ్గురు కూర్చున్నారు.
మొదటివాడు చూసి తిన్నాడు.
రెండవవాడు చూసి పక్కన పెట్టాడు.
మూడవవాడు – న్యూటన్ –

“ఇది కింద ఎందుకు పడింది? పైకి ఎందుకు వెళ్ళలేదు?” అని ప్రశ్నించాడు!

ఆ ఒక్క ప్రశ్న – గురుత్వాకర్షణ సిద్ధాంతాన్ని జన్మనిచ్చింది!

మన తెలుగు కవి వేమన చెప్పారు –

“ఉప్పు కప్పురంబు ఒక్క పోలికనుండు…
చూడ చూడ రుచుల జాడ వేరు…”

అంటే –
కల అంటే రాత్రి నిద్రలో కనే విషయం కాదు… కల అంటే అది నిన్ను నిద్రపోనివ్వకుండా చేయాలి!

మీరు
ఏ తరగతిలో చదువుతున్నా సరే –
ఈ రోజు ఒక కల కనండి!

వైద్యుడు అవ్వాలని ఉందా?
శాస్త్రవేత్త అవ్వాలని ఉందా?

Newton considered time as a river. But Einstein said that the river of time does not flow uniformly, but in the presence of planets, stars and galaxies, it bends and time passes faster or slower around them. Just as a fish swimming in the ocean pushes back the water around it, a star or a comet or a planet changes its direction in the space it travels. Direction and time are not separate. The primary purpose of celebrating World Radio Day is to take radio into remote and rural areas and spread knowledge among the people there. When compared with other modern means of communication—such as newspapers, radio, and television—radio remains the simplest and most accessible. Newspapers require an owner to bear expenses and readers to pay daily. As for television—no explanation is necessary about its costs. In contrast, radio has overcome the barriers of time, distance, and cost, leaving an indelible mark as the most affordable medium.

All India Radio (AIR) has always upheld discipline and meaningful, elegant Telugu in its news bulletins, talks, and cultural programs. Interestingly, though radio existed for decades, World Radio Day was not celebrated until after the rise of television and FM radio. The celebration of World Radio Day began in 2012.

On February 13, 1946, the United Nations established its own radio service. It was later decided at the 36th session of UNESCO’s General Assembly in 2011 to commemorate that date—February 13—as World Radio Day.

Radio is the simplest, quickest, and most inexpensive means of spreading information. Even in today’s modern age, radio remains a vital source of knowledge. Although its popularity has slightly declined, until a decade ago, over 95% of the world’s population regularly listened to the radio. In developing countries, over 75% of housewives still rely on it for information on various subjects.

Despite the existence of thousands of TV channels and hundreds of newspapers, radio remains the most reliable medium during natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, lightning strikes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. It helps convey weather conditions to affected people and updates governments about their situations, thereby preventing further loss of life and property.

For example, during cyclones like Hudhud, Titli, and Phethai, when power, transport, and communication systems completely collapsed in parts of Andhra Pradesh, people in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam praised radio for keeping them informed about weather conditions. When cable networks failed and newspapers couldn’t be delivered, radio was their only lifeline.

Radio in India – A Historical Overview

The first radio broadcasts in India began in June 1923, conducted by the Radio Club of Bombay. Later, the Broadcasting Company of India was established. Experimental broadcasts started in July 1927 from Calcutta and Bombay. These broadcasts were carried out under the supervision of the Indian government.

In 1936, All India Radio (AIR) became a government organization. At the time of India’s independence, there were only six AIR stations—Calcutta, Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Lucknow, and Tiruchirappalli.

Today, AIR operates 215 centers and 337 transmitters (144 MW, 54 SW, and 139 FM stations), covering over 99.13% of India’s population with information, education, and entertainment.

The first Telugu broadcast began in 1938 at the Madras station. The first female announcer to speak in melodious Telugu was Mrs. Punnavajjula Bhanumathi, also known as Radio Bhanumathi. Her daughter Jyotsna later became a radio announcer as well.

The first Telugu radio play, Anarkali, was broadcast in June 1938 from the Madras station, featuring renowned artists like Viswanatha Satyanarayana, Vinjamoory Narasimharao, and Muddu Krishna.

Many great personalities—including Kongara Jaggayya, Ushasri, and Prayaga Ramakrishna—worked with All India Radio.

Today, AIR stations are located in Hyderabad, Adilabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Kadapa, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Kurnool, Kothagudem, and Tirupati.

Today, radios are built into pens, mobile phones, cars, and other vehicles, becoming a convenient source of both entertainment and knowledge.

Many legendary voices that graced AIR, such as Ushasri’s Ramayana commentary, brought fame to both the medium and the epic itself. Radio gave voice to film personalities, writers, dramatists, and freedom fighters alike.

How Does Radio Work?

Radio communication involves transmitting sound signals through electromagnetic waves at the speed of light, using modulation. The device that receives these signals is called a radio receiver.

In the early days, radios were built using vacuum tubes, which consumed high electricity and were bulky—similar to early televisions. By the 1960s, transistors were introduced, making radios portable and battery-operated.

• Medium Wave: Used for regional broadcasts, typically covering 200–300 km. Stations like Hyderabad and Vijayawada AIR use this range.
• Short Wave: Used for long-distance transmission up to 3,500 km. However, the sound quality is lower. International broadcasters like BBC and VOA (Voice of America) have used this method for decades.
• FM (Frequency Modulation): Used for short-range broadcasts with high sound quality. Most radio stations worldwide now use this technology. In India, private channels like Radio Mirchi (98.3 FM) and Red FM (93.5 FM) follow this system.

Indeed, the power of negative thinking is such that it clouds our judgment, weighs us down, and drains our inner strength. Generally, negative thoughts are tied to either the past or the future, and as a result, they make us lose the present moment.

To counter them, we must apply the principle of “a thorn removes another thorn.” Limit your thoughts to what needs to be done now, in the present.

Stop dwelling on the past—it’s gone forever. Whether right or wrong, what happened has happened. The past cannot be changed. Likewise, the future is not entirely in our control. The only thing we can manage is the present.

Do not be overly anxious about the outcome. Excessive negative thinking about results suppresses self-confidence, while excessive positive thinking leads to unrealistic fantasies. Balance is key—direct your mind steadily toward constructive and practical thoughts.

విద్యార్థులల్లో సహృదయం, శారీరిక దారుఢ్యం, క్రమ శిక్షణ, సామాజిక అంకిత భావం, కర్తవ్య నిర్వహణ, నాయకత్వం, లౌకిక దృక్పథం, సాహస స్ఫూర్తి మరియు నిస్వార్థ సేవ, దేశ భక్తి కలిగించేలా నేషనల్ క్యాడెట్ కార్ప్స్ ( ఎన్ సి సి) ని ఇక్కడ ఏర్పాటు చేయడమైనది.
ప్రతి ఏడాది ఇక్కడ 8వతరగతిలో చదివే బాల బాలికలను కలిపి 50 మంది చొప్పున అర్హతలను బట్టి ఎంపిక చేసుకొని 9వతరగతి వరకు రెండేళ్లపాటు సైనిక శిక్షణ ఇస్తారు. ఉన్నత విద్య, ఉద్యోగాలకు ఉపాయోగపడేలా ఎ సర్టిఫిఒకేట్స్ కూడా ఇస్తారు. శిక్షణ పొందిన ఒక ఉపాధ్యాయుడు కూడా ఇక్కడ పనిచేస్తున్నారు. ప్రత్యేక సందర్భాలలో పోలీసులు చేసే విధినిర్వహణకు కూడా ఎన్ సి సి పిల్లలను క్యాంపులు తీసుకెళుతుంటారు.

*పి ఎం శ్రీ గా రూపు దాల్చిన మోడల్ స్కూల్*

పారదర్శక ఛాలెంజ్ పద్ధతి స్వారా ఇక్కడి మోడల్ స్కూల్ ఎంపికై పి ఎం శ్రీ పాఠశాలగా రూపుదిద్దుకొంటుంది. ఈ పాఠశాలను గుణాత్మకంగా బలోపేతం చేయటం, జాతీయ విధానాలతో ఆదర్శవంతమైన పాఠశాలగా మార్చడం, విద్యార్థులకు మౌలిక సదుపాయాలతో ఉత్సాహంగా, ఉత్పాదకంగా, నాణ్యమైన విద్యను అందించి సహాయకరంగా ఉత్తమ పౌరులుగా తీర్చిదిద్దటం పి ఎం శ్రీ మోడల్ స్కూల్ ప్రధాన లక్ష్యం.

*మోడల్ స్కూల్ ప్రత్యేకాలు*

ర్యాంకులు తెచ్చే ఒకరిద్దరిపై మాత్రమే దృష్టి పెట్టకుండా ప్రతి విద్యార్థి పట్ల ప్రత్యేక శ్రద్ధా శక్తిని కనబరుస్తూ, బట్టి ధోరణికి భిన్నంగా అర్ధవంతమైన విద్యాబోధనలో వెనుకబడిన విద్యార్థులకు సైతం ప్రత్యేక శిక్షణ అందిస్తారు. ఈ పాఠశాలలో విద్యనభ్యసించడానికి ఎలాంటి ఇబ్బందులు లేకుండా సౌకర్యవంతంగా సువిశాల తరగతులను నిర్మించారు. ఎక్కడా ఇరుకు గదులుండవు. విద్యార్థులకు అనువుగా బెంచీలు, ఫ్యానులు ఏర్పాటై వున్నాయి. తరగతి గదుల గవాక్షముల గుండా ఏసీని తలతాన్నేలా ఆహ్లాదకరమైన వాతావరణంలో విద్యనందిస్తున్నారు.

విద్యార్ధులపై ఎలాంటి మానసిక వత్తడి పడకుండానే అవసరానికి ప్రత్యేక తరగతులను, సూపర్వైజ్డ్ స్టడీ అవర్స్, డిజిటల్ క్లాసులను నిర్వహిస్తారు.

వెనుకబడిన పిల్లలు స్కాలర్ షిప్పులు పొందడానికి ఎన్ . ఎం. ఎం. ఎస్ పరీక్షలకు అవసరమైన ప్రత్యేక శిక్షణ కూడా ఇస్తారు. ఇన్ స్వైర్ – మనకే అవార్డులు, ఉత్తమ ఫలితాలతో లభించే ప్రతిభా అవార్డులను పొందడానికి శిక్షణ అందితారు.

*ప్రభుత్వ పథకాలు*

కేంద్ర, రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వాలు అందించే విద్యార్థులకు అందించే అన్ని పథకాలు ఇక్కడి మోడల్ స్కూలుకు వర్తిస్తుంది. 6 నుండి 10వ తరగతి వరకే కాకుండా ఇంటర్మీడియట్ చదివే విద్యార్థులకు సైతం ఇక్కడ మధ్యాహ్న భోజన పథకం అమలవుతుంది. మంచి నీటి సౌకర్యంగా ఆరో ప్లాంటు ఏర్పాటై వుంది. విద్యార్థులు క్రమశిక్షణా రాహిత్యానికి పాల్పడకుండా తగు జాగ్రర్త చర్యలు గైకొండానికి సి సి కెమెరాలు కూడా ఏర్పాటవున్నాయి.

అన్ని తరగతుల విద్యార్థులకు ఉచితంగా పాఠ్య పుస్తకాలు, నోట్సు, కిట్లు, ఉచిత దుస్తులు తదితర ప్రభుత్వ కానుకలు విద్యా సంవత్సరం ప్రారంభంలోనే అందిస్తారు.

*త్వరలో హాస్టల్ వసతి*.

ఇక్కడ చదివే విద్యార్థునులకు హాస్టల్ వసతిని త్వరలోనే కల్పించనున్నారు. హాస్టల్ నిర్మాణానికి అవసరమైన ఏర్పాట్లు వేగవంతంగా జరుగుతున్నాయి.

*చేతి రాత*

చేతి రాత మారితే నుదుటి రాత మారుతుంది అంటారు. ప్రతి ఏడాది విద్యా సంవత్సరం ప్రారంభంలోనే ఫ్రీ హ్యాండ్ స్పెషలిస్ట్ ఆహ్వానించి వారితో ప్రత్యేకంగా శిక్షణా తరగతులను నిర్వహిస్తారు. విద్యార్థులను ప్రోత్సహించాలనే ఉద్దేశ్యంతో శిక్షణ పొందిన వారికి సర్టిఫికెట్స్, ఉత్తమ రాత రాయటం నేర్చుకొన్న వారికి ప్రముఖుల చేతులమీదుగా బహుమతులు అందిస్తారు.

ఇవి కాకుండా కో-కరికులం యాక్టివిటీసులను నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఎనర్జీ క్లబ్, మేథ్స్ క్లబ్, సోషల్ క్లబులను ఏర్పాటుచేస్తారు. వ్యాస రచన పోటీలు, వకృత్వ పోటీలు, చిత్ర లేఖనం పోటీలు, సమకాలీన అంశాలపై పట్టు పెంపొందించేందుకు క్విజ్ పోటీలను నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఈ పోటీ ప్రపంచంలో పరీక్షా సమయాల్లో పిల్లల్లో భయం పోగొట్టేలా … మానసిక వత్తిడిని తట్టుకునేలా మంచి ఫలితాలతో విజయం సాధించేలా… ప్రత్యేకంగా ప్రముఖులతో, నిష్ణాతులతో ప్రేరణ కలిగించేలా అవగాహనా కార్యక్రమాలను చేపట్టడం జరుగుతుంది.

*విశాల ఆటస్థలం*

ఇక్కడ తరగతి గదులు, లాబులు, పాథశాల భవనం తప్పించి విద్యార్థినీ విద్యార్థులు అన్ని రకాల ఆటలు ఆదుకొనేందుకు 5 ఎకరాల సువిశాల క్రీడా మైదానం వుంది. ఫుట్‌బాల్ కోర్టు, బాస్కెట్‌బాల్, బ్యాట్మింటన్ కోర్టులు ఏర్పాటై వున్నాయి. లాంగ్ జెంపు, హాయ్ జంపు, పరుగు పందెములలో శిక్షణ ఇవ్వడానికి ప్రత్యేకమైన ఆటస్థలం ఏర్పాటుచేశారు. అన్ని రకాల క్రీడలకు అవసరమైన సామాగ్రి పనిముట్లు కలిగి వున్నాయి.

పీఎం శ్రీ స్కూలుగా మారటంతో ఇక్కడి క్రీడా మైదానంలో జిల్లా, రాష్ట్ర స్థాయిలో పోటీలు నిర్వహించ గలిగేంత అభివృద్ధి చెందుతుంది. ప్రతిరోజు పిల్లలను ఆడిస్తూ క్రెడల్లోనూ శిక్షణ ఇవ్వడానికి పీడీ మాస్టారు పనిచేస్తున్నారు.

*తల్లిదండ్రుల సమావేశం*

తల్లిదండ్రులు-ఉపాధ్యాయ సమావేశాలు విద్యా నిర్మాణంలో ఒక ముఖ్యమైన అంశం . తల్లిదండ్రులు-ఉపాధ్యాయ సమావేశాలు పాఠశాల జీవితంలో ఒక అంతర్భాగం. తల్లిదండ్రుల-ఉపాధ్యాయ సమావేశాలు ఉపాధ్యాయులకు తల్లిదండ్రులతో క్రమశిక్షణ వ్యూహాలను చర్చించడానికి ఒక ఆదర్శవంతమైన అవకాశాన్ని అందిస్తాయి. ఇందుకోసం ఇక్కడ ప్రతి మూడు నెలలకొక సారి తల్లిదండ్రుల సమావేశం జరుగుతుంది.

పిల్లలు ఎలా చదువుతున్నారు. ప్రోగ్రస్ ఏమిటీ ?… పిల్లలు, ఉపాధ్యాయుల పనితీరు… పిల్లవాడు పాఠశాలలో ఏమి నేర్చుకుంటున్నాడో, పిల్లల ఫలితాలను, నడవడికలను, సామాజిక-భావోద్వేగ పురోగతిని అర్ధం చేసుకోవడానికి, లోపాలను సరిచేసుకోవడానికి ఉజ్వల భవిష్యత్తుకు ఈ సమావేశాలు దోహద పడేలా నిర్వహిస్తారు.

అలాగే పాఠశాల పిల్లల అభివృద్ధికి చేపట్టాల్సిన కార్యక్రమాల గురించి కూడా తల్లుదండ్రుల కమిటీ సమావేశం జరిగేలా చర్యలు చేపట్టుతారు.

*విజ్ఞానం, వినోదం కోసం..*

పిల్లల్లో సృజనాత్మకతను పెంపొందించేందుకు విజ్ఞానం, పరిజ్ఞానం, వినోదం అందించేలా.. విహాల యాత్రలు, పరిశ్రమలు, బాంకులు, పరిశోధనా, పర్యాటక కేంద్రాలు సందర్శించేలా కార్యక్రమాలు చేపట్టడం జరుగుతుంది.

ఇవి కాకుండా జాతీయ పండుగలు, భారతీయ సంస్కృతుల వేడుకలు, వార్షికోత్సవాలు, మ్యాథ్స్ డే, సైన్స్ డే, స్పోర్ట్స్ డే, చిల్డ్రన్స్ డే లాంటి కార్యక్రమాలన్నీ ఒక పండుగా పిల్లల్లో ఉత్తేజాన్ని కలిగిస్తూ నిర్వహిస్తారు. అలాగే స్వఛ్చ భారత్, స్వచ్ఛ పాఠశాల, వ్యాయామం, ధ్యానం, యోగా కార్యక్రమాలను నిర్వహిస్తారు.

విద్యార్థుల్లో మానసిక వత్తిళ్ళను తొలగించి ఆత్మ స్థైర్యం, ఆత్మా విశ్వాసం కలిగించేలా ప్రముఖ వైద్య నిపులతో కొన్సిలింగ్ ఇప్పిస్తారు. వైద్య బృందాలతో వివిధ రకాల వ్యాధుల పరీక్షలు, ఉచిత వైద్య శిబిరాలు నిర్వహిస్తారు.
